The Journey Begins
Goodbyes totally suck. They just do. I’ve been dreading the airport drop off since I decided to go on this trip. It was as sad as I expected it to be. But…I promised myself that once I said my goodbyes, walked into the airport, got through security and officially committed to this trip, I would open myself up to a major shift in perspective and approach.
Breathe. Sink into it. Let it all go. Embrace the next three weeks and let life play itself out exactly the way it’s supposed to.
Enjoy every...single...moment.
My Dad and I will be spending the next 17 hours on an airplane. Thankfully, not all at once. Our first leg is a 7 hour flight to Amsterdam. If I was handling the flight plan, I would have made sure the layover in Amsterdam was a bit longer than just 4 hours…but it’s probably better for both of us that we aren’t allowed to leave the airport. The second leg is a 10 hour flight into Cape Town. I have never been on an airplane for 10 hours straight. I can barely sit still for 10 minutes straight, so this will be a challenge for sure.
This whole idea of “getting there” now has me wondering exactly how many mini bottles of Titos Vodka it will it take to either get me to sleep through these next 17 hours of travel….or at least help me forget that it took that long.
